Q: Can I just buy a pre-made card from you? A: My priority will always be commission-based work and, as such, I won’t necessarily have time to also produce a stock of ready-to-go products (as much as I’d like this to be the case!) but I do love what I do so I will, of course, always be taking breaks from commissions to simply make things that I like. Anything I make outside of commission work will appear on my Instagram and I may offer it for sale there. Some things I do keep for myself however! However, you are free to message me on Instagram and ask me if a piece you see on there is available for sale.
Q: Do you accept a customer’s own cards to be used in a project? A: No. There are too many possible complications involved in taking a knife to somebody else’s cards, especially if a customer isn’t happy with the final result for whatever reason. These cards may hold sentimental or monetary value and can never be recovered once they are cut! I will always source any necessary cards myself.
Q: How do you sleep at night cutting up rare and valuable cards?!? A: Relax. I will always opt for cheap, modern reprints if they are available, or even proxies/printed materials. I will never take a knife to any card that is rare, especially valuable, or an expensive, mint condition vintage card. I am a collector of TCGs myself and this would hurt ME as much as you! Obviously, where proxies and printed material are concerned, you will be charged accordingly and this will be reflected in the quote breakdown. At worst case scenario, if a card is too expensive, rare, or I cannot justify cutting it/them up for whatever reason, and I cannot source proxies or high resolution artwork for printing, then I may have to turn down a commission request.
Q: Can you make ANYTHING? A: Not necessarily. With Break-Out cards for example, I need to be able to acquire the full, uncropped artwork at a high enough resolution to manipulate and print. If I can’t, then I won’t be able to proceed. There are some Dark Magician artworks, for example, that I can’t turn into Break-Outs because the top of the character’s hat is cut off in the artwork and no uncropped/full versions exist online. Additionally, there can sometimes be problems with holo borders and artwork/text box frames. At various points in Yu-Gi-Oh!!s history, the layouts of the cards and sizes of the artwork and text boxes have adjusted slightly. As such, some holo border/frame styles are only available on cards with modern layouts, and these don’t line up properly with cards that were only printed in the older layout/format. Again, I will inform you of any such issues during the quote process, and I can advise which holo border styles are available. I also cannot guarantee that I can work with every single card game out there. My main experience is with Yu-Gi-Oh!! and Pokemon and so I cannot promise to be able to work with the likes of MTG or sports cards. If I feel like I CAN then I will but it will dependant on the specific card and artwork.
Q: Do I get a stand with my card? A: I will ship all regular 3D cards in hard plastic boxes but these are for shipping purposes/storage and not accurately-sized display cases. Unfortunately, I don’t supply stands or display cases, but I understand that a standard PSA slab stand is a good option. I also recommend Ultra Pro 25-count card storage boxes if you want to keep the card properly covered. Break-Outs come mounted in a box frame with glass front and are no longer removable (as they were in the recent past). This is for reasons related to the physical building process of the artwork and also as it allows me to make it more secure with shipping in mind.
Q: Can I order a Break-Out card without the frame for cheaper shipping? A: No. As well as being included for aesthetic and display purposes, the frames are also essential for secure shipping. The card is attached to the background which holds it safely in place while in transit. Unfortunately, there are no other easier ways to ship these intricate designs as I have discovered in the past! Previously, I have had to create elaborate, bespoke packaging for each Break-Out and this obviously consumes a lot of time - time I would have to charge for in the quote.
Q: Do you have a gallery of your past work? A: You can find a gallery of my notable past works here. Alternatively, you can browse my Instagram posts where I upload pictures and video of everything I make. You are welcome to browse either for ideas. I am not against re-producing older designs (with some exceptions) and even updating them in the process.
Q: Shipping seems a little high… A: Unfortunately, shipping is expensive! Sending items outside of the UK is sadly just that expensive these days, and I will only use tracked services with the appropriate level of insurance given the cost of my work. Again, the exact shipping method will be detailed in your quote.
